This week on A Tight Five, Punchline Magazine’s web series wherein editor Dylan Gadino interviews comedians onstage at Comix in New York City, Pete Correale sits down for a chat. His huge one-hour Comedy Central special The Things We Do For Love premieres May 30 at 11 p.m. We’ve seen the advance copy of it. We can attest to its amazingly high number of laughs per minute. However, we feel it’s only fair that you get to know Pete a wee bit better before checking out the special. That’s where this interview comes in. Enjoy.

Nick Swardson sketch show picked up for 6 episodes

Gay Robot is finally making it to TV – albeit not as a live action series but as part of Nick Swardson’s upcoming sketch comedy show. Swardson announced yesterday via his Myspace blog that his show was picked up for six episodes.
It’ll be my own sketch show with Gay Robot animated a part of the sketch show. It’s more in the vain of Mr. Show and Human Giant. I’m so psyched. Gonna be DOPE.
Also part of the project is Tom Gianas who has written for shows like Saturday Night Live, Tenacious D, and Human Giant. Gianas worked with Swardson on the original live acion Gay Robot series.

Mitch Fatel, Doug Benson, more star in new G4 show

Some of the top working stand-up comedians in the country will be starring in G4’s new TV series, The International Sexy Ladies Show. The show will air funny and provocative TV/DVD clips of women from Spain, Russia, Japan, Italy, and more. The clips will feature introductions and commentary from a panel of your favorite comedians: Doug Benson, Steve Byrne, John Caparulo, Mitch Fatel, Jo Koy, Sherrod Small, and the UK’s Alex Zane. The show premieres June 7 at 9:30 p.m. EST. Check out a preview below.

Matt Kirshen, more to perform on live Twitter stand-up event

On June 8, British standout comedian and Last Comic Standing star Matt Kirshen, along with six other comics will participate in a groundbreaking stand-up event. Twitter will debut their first comedy show in what constitutes a new form of live entertainment. The show, Twitcom will show a new role of the stand-up comedian, with comics relying on their computer or cell phone for their performance.
Comedian Tiernan Douieb first developed this idea. “I was doing a poorly attended gig and complained about it in my Twitter updates,” Douieb told Seven Magazine. “Some of my followers pointed out that I had a bigger audience online, so I should do a gig for them. It seemed like a fun idea. I got in touch with all the comics I knew who were frequent tweeters and generally they all seemed keen.”
Despite the lack of the comedy club atmosphere, the audience will still be able to comment on and even heckle the comics during the show. This performance may be the first of many Twitcom shows, as Douieb said that a sponsorship is possible in the future.
The lineup of the other comics at Twitter’s first-ever comedy night includes Matt Kirshen, Terry Saunders, Carl Donnelly, Mitch Benn, Gary Delaney, Rob Heeney, and Mark Watson.

Alabama comics will still write jokes for Leno

You are probably well aware that Friday marks Jay Leno’s last appearance as the host of The Tonight Show, a job he’s done for the past 17 years. He’s moving on to hosting his own prime-time chat show in the fall and in the process handing over the Tonight Show to Conan O’Brien.
As we were scouring the regional Alabama news sites (as we do every day), we came upon this wee story about two local comedians who have been writing jokes for Leno’s show the past half decade. We kind of always picture writers of late-night talk shows sitting in swank offices, writing jokes, bouncing ideas off one another and all that fun stuff to cobble together a coherent night of comedy. And all that probably happens. But dudes at home in Alabama — maybe even in their PJs — are also writing things Leno is saying; and, they’re getting paid for it. And it looks like they’re going to stay on Leno’s payroll. Check out the video below.

Dane Cook hits Billboard’s Top 10

Beating out the likes of Tori Amos and Busta Rhymes, Dane Cook’s new album Isolated Incident has debuted on Billboard’s Top 10, landing at a very respectable No. 5. His second Top 10 release of his career, Cook sold 61,000 copies of the CD/DVD in its first week. His 2005 double album and DVD, Retaliation debuted and peaked at No. 4, selling 86,000 copies in its first week; it went on to spend 84 weeks on the list.

Todd Glass rips Daniel Tosh a new asshole

We’re not going to lie. We’re already looking forward to the premiere of Daniel Tosh’s new Comedy Central show Tosh.0, wherein the comedian makes fun of the latest viral videos. But for some odd reason, this video of Todd Glass verbally assaulting Daniel and addressing the reasons why the show will be a 100 percent failure makes us want to watch the show even more. Check it out.

Steven Wright’s first album and comedy special re-released

Fans of Steven Wright, rejoice! Warner Bros is re-releasing Wright’s classic album, 1985’s I Have a Pony on June 2. Comedian Lynne Koplitz pitches for Midol

We’d like to think of this as yet another piece of proof that the national stand-up comedy scene is stronger than ever. It seems Midol, the over-the-counter medication that helps alleviates menstrual cramps, aches and bloating, has enlisted veteran comedian Lynne Koplitz to help sell their product.

Comedian launches site dedicated to Ireland’s stand-up scene

Irish comedian Dave O’Gorman was frustrated with the lack of stand-up comedy awareness in the city of Dublin. “No matter how often I told family and friends about comedy in Dublin, very few knew there were even comedy nights in the clubs.” O’Gorman told Punchline Magazine. So he decided to take action.
O’Gorman has launched a website called Comedy Ireland, located at comedyireland.ie with an exclusive focus on comedy news and performances in and around Dublin. The site will contain blogs, reviews, profiles of comedians and venues, a schedule of shows, and comedy podcasts. It’s the first website solely dedicated to the stand-up comedy scene in Ireland. O’Gorman and other comedians will also be participating in the Kilkenny Fringe Festival this year. The show runs for five nights at Rafter Dempseys, and will feature up and coming as well as established stand-up comics in Ireland.
