One of the advantages of being up at 7 a.m. every morning, due to having a one year old?
You’re always one of the first people to find out when your favorite comedians turn up on Sesame Street. This morning the mighty World Champion Judah Friedlander graced my television set as Inspector 4, a dude who was charged with finding all the number “4s” on Sesame Street. He also started looking for the letter “R”; I think I may have missed why that was (it’s a difficult program to follow).
To my dismay, the video is not on Sesame Street’s site yet or on the old YouTube (but we do have a photo of his character above). But, the good news is that apparently, this wasn’t the first time the 30 Rock star appeared on the kids show. So below, check out Judah teaching the kiddies the meaning of the word “spectacular.”
And as a bonus, after the jump, check out Todd Barry’s now classic 2006 performance on Sesame Street as the number 7. Enjoy! Also related: Ricky Gervais terrorizes Elmo on Sesame Street.
Todd Barry, Eugene Mirman, Tim Heidecker, Tig Notaro, Neil Hamburger, Natasha Leggero and musical guests Issac Brock (Modest Mouse) and James Mercer (The Shins) will all join onstage at the Moore Theatre in Seattle on Feb. 11 to help raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphona Society. If you live in the area, we highly suggest you make it to the event, dubbed Defriending Cancer. Get your tickets here.
Producers of the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival announced their 2010 lineup this morning, which features some of our favorite Stateside comedians. Bill Burr, Todd Barry, Marc Maron and Stepen Lynch will all enjoy headlining spots at Europe’s biggest comedy-dedicated festival, which will run from March 11 – 28.
Rob Calder, marketing manager for Magners, told Chortle: “The line-up for this year’s festival programme looks excellent and will give audiences the chance to see some of the best comedy performers around. Festivals like this also help to provide a platform for up and coming comedians to showcase their talent to new audiences – which is vital to the future success of these events.” The festival is in its eighth year.
If you’ve been following Comedy Central’s 2010 Stand-up Showdown and/or spend any amount of time on Twitter and Facebook following your favorite comedians, you will have no doubt noticed a good many of said comics campaigning for your votes. We saw that he was for the first time, one of our favorite comedians, Todd Barry, was for the first time being vocal about getting votes for this year’s showdown; so we asked Todd if he wanted to make a video to that effect for Punchline Magazine.
On Dec. 21 we we posted that video. Just yesterday morning, we posted a second video Todd made for us– a concession video where he humorously bows out of the competition. Of course, there is no official bowing out since it’s not a real election. In response to that, a member of Todd’s Facebook fan page, who says he’s a software developer, claims he rigged his computer to vote for Todd 60-90 times every minute. Comedy Central encourages visitors to vote early and often on the official Showdown page on jokes.com.
This, by the way, is all documented on Barry’s Facebook fan page (or check out the image below). It looks as though this fan wasn’t lying and whatever he did to his computer, it’s working. As of this writing, Barry is winning the contest. Before Barry’s fan posted is declaration, Barry wasn’t even in the top 20. Barry, obviously, has nothing to do with this guy’s shenanigans. Also, this isn’t a shot against how Comedy Central is running their contest. We’re just laying out some observations.
But is Barry the only one seeing the effects of vote tampering? And is it really even tampering since you’re allowed to vote as much as you want? As of this writing, Tammy Pescatelli is right below Barry in the ranking. Comedian Doug Benson said this on Twitter at 2:52 pm EST on Dec. 22. “Tammy Pescatelli totally deserves the 42,000 votes she somehow got overnight. Robots love her!” We should note, just like in the Barry situation, this could be the result of a dedicated, yet ill-directed fan. We’re not saying that there is for sure some rigging going on in Tammy’s favor. And if there turns out there is, we’re not saying Tammy has anything to do with it.
Two days ago, Todd Barry was full of hope as he excitedly — for him, anyway — spoke directly to you, Punchline Magazine readers about winning over your votes for the Comedy Central Stand-up Showdown. Late last night, however, he recorded this video, which finds the veteran and much-respected comedian solemn and measured during his official concession speech.
As we’re sure you’re aware, the annual Comedy Central Stand-up Showdown is underway. If you’re still not too sure what this event is, each year the network runs a contest wherein people vote online and by text for their favorite comedian’s previously aired Comedy Central special.
And every year, many comedians take to the Internet to campaign for their fans’ votes. In the end, the 20 highest ranked comedians will have their special replayed on Comedy Central during the showdown day. This year, that day is Jan 31. We noticed that for the first time, our friend Todd Barry is actually campaigning a bit. So we asked him if he wanted to address Punchline Magazine readers directly to wrangle up some support. He said ok. Below is the proof.
