First look at Nick Swardson’s Comedy Central sketch show

Digg!

With all the poor and starving people in the world isn’t it great when rich people like to leave all of their fortune to the family pet? Enter the world of the newest rich cat, Mr. Stitches!

But not all is right in this kitty’s world. His dead owner’s son, Edmond, boiled over with jealousy has run Stitches over with a car. Paralyzed from the waist down, Stitches is now confined to a wheelchair, but his powerful story is being told in the new hit reality show Wheelchair Cat: Trust Fund Kitty.

Well, no, actually he’s the star of a sketch in comedian Nick Swardson’s Comedy Central show, Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time, premiering Oct. 12.

If a slimy businessman version of Stephen Hawking in a cat’s body is just a small taste of Pretend Time, then who knows what other magnificent lands and alternate realities Swardson’s twisted imagination will take us next. Check it out.

Nick Swardson sports it up for Vitamin Water and NCAA basketball

Digg!

Comedy Central darling Nick Swardson has been tapped to star in a cross promotional campaign that teams up Vitamin Water and the NCAA basketball tournament. In a series of spots called “Mad Tips,” Swardson gives his audience helpful hints on how to better enjoy this year’s college sporting event of the year. In each of the ads — check them out below — a co-star is also featured; 30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden, Kevin Farley and John Farley are all represented. Enjoy!

Nick Swardson was born to be a star

Digg!

Well, at least that’s what the title of his first starring feature, Born to be a Star, would have you believe. Set for release on Labor Day of 2010, the film will unfold a plot line that plays along the lines of “Napoleon Dynamite meets Boogie NightsNick+Swardson+swadsonaccording to Swardson’s latest MySpace post.

Written by Swardson, Allen Covert, and the venerable Adam Sandler, the film is also set to star Christina Ricci, Stephen Dorf, Don Johnson and Kevin Nealon. A release of the film is delayed due to the recent news that a sketch series starring Swardson has been picked up for a season by Comedy Central, rendering the comedian unable to perform press duties surrounding the movie’s release.

Comedy Central picks up Nick Swardson sketch show

Digg!

Nick SwardsonThe fine folks over at Comedy Central announced today that Nick Swardson – he of the cherub-faced/devilish-eye gleam comedy dichotomy – will be premiering a brand new sketch series with the network, to debut in 2010.

Having already had success with both his stand-up specials and many memorable appearances on Reno: 911, Swardson now has six episodes to prove his comedic chops as a series star to the suits. The half-hour weekly series is to be produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions.

Is ‘Seriously, Who Farted?’ Nick Swardson’s stand-up swan song?

Digg!

Nick Swardson likes to tell the media how eager he is to quit stand-up comedy — he told me point blank a few months ago — and focus all his attention on feature films. He should really reconsider. Not that a successful run as a scene-stealing thespian should be anything but assured – he’s already proven his celluloid worthiness with roles in Blades of Glory and Grandma’s Boy. But his stand-up is just plain hilarious, and this is readily apparent in his latest Comedy Central special, Seriously, Who Farted? (Premiering Sunday, Oct. 11 at 10 p.m. EST).

In spite of its frat-boyish title, the special is a quick way for Swardson to demonstrate his comedic prowess and cunning ability to spin the ordinary into an item of profound hilarity. Although enjoying a long-successful run as a teenaged favorite for the Adam Sandler set, Swardson has always been a rather underrated stand-up voice. And while he’ll probably never carry as respected of a reputation as, say, a Jim Gaffigan or a Patton Oswalt, his material, as always, speaks for itself.

Nick Swardson – 80s Parties

“Girls love 80s parties,” he opines during the special. “I could tell them that Osama bin Laden was holding a party, and they’d refuse to attend. But if I told them Osama bin Laden was holding an 80s party, they’d be like, ‘…well, what time?’”

Swardson has always had the knack for creating a conversational onstage persona that not only draws in audience members to his world, but sets them instantly at ease in it. He knows how to spin a good yarn, and even the most unconventional of scenarios can feel like every day fodder in Swardson’s capable comic hands. (“There’s nothing worse than being violently too high. It’s horrifying. You know what I mean.”) Even if you don’t – but if you’re a diehard Swardson devotee, let’s face it, you probably do – it’s almost impossible to resist lines like those, especially when they’re delivered with a boyish wink and a dimpled smile.

If Swardson’s comedy career is truly about to pass on to the great open mic gig in the sky, then Seriously, Who Farted is a pretty solid send off. He will be sorely missed.

Nick Swardson sketch show picked up for six episodes

Digg!

Gay Robot is finally making it to TV – albeit not as a live action series but as part of Nick Swardson’s upcoming sketch comedy show. Swardson announced via his Myspace blog that his show was picked up for six episodes.

It’ll be my own sketch show with Gay Robot animated a part of the sketch show. It’s more in the vain of Mr. Show and Human Giant. I’m so psyched. Gonna be DOPE.

Also part of the project is Tom Gianas who has written for shows like Saturday Night Live, Tenacious D, and Human Giant. Gianas worked with Swardson on the original live acion Gay Robot series.
