Louis CK to raise cash for daughter’s school

Digg!

Louis C.K.For the second time in as many years, Louis CK is doing what he can to ensure his daughter’s school is financially stable. The comic will perform a benefit show at Carolines in New York on March 14 at 7 pm, with all the proceeds going to PS3 in Manhattan. He organized a similar event in January of last year.

“Public school is, to me, the most important thing in the whole world that actually exists,” stated C.K. “I seriously mean that. I think it’s the solution to almost everything. Obviously, public schools are in big trouble all over the country and in “this economy” it’s getting much worse. I don’t want PS3 to lose more than it has to.”

For those of you in the New York metro area, we strongly suggest you nab your $35 or $45 tickets; it’s a great cause and it’ll be the last live headlining area appearance before Louis’ new FX show Louie premieres in June.

For reservations call 212-757-4100 or visit carolines.com.

Louis C.K.’s FX show “Louie” moves to June

Digg!

Louis CKOnce the premiere date for Louis C.K.’s new show, Louie was announced as April 1, there had been a small Internet buzz that it may have been an April Fool’s Day joke– that the show wouldn’t in fact premiere on said day. Well, we don’t think that’s the case, but the day of the highly anticipated show has moved two months back, though an en exact date has not been set.

Now, Denis Leary’s Emmy nominated, long-running Rescue Me will serve as the lead-in to Louis’ new show on FX.  “Louie is a brilliantly funny and original series, and we are excited by the critical response to the show,” said John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks.  “Even though it is a drama, Rescue Me has always been regarded as one of the funniest shows on television and it will provide an outstanding, compatible lead-in for Louie.  We successfully used Rescue Me as a lead-in for the majority of the first season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  We believe in Louie and want to provide it with the best possible platform for success.”

Louie is highly biographical as it follows the respected comedian as a single father of two young girls in New York City; the show will also show snippets of his stand-up comedy.

Louis CK’s ‘Lucky Louie’ gets new life in Canada

Digg!

Louis CKComedy fans and Louis CK supporters nationwide were shocked and dismayed when HBO decided not to renew his show R-rated show Lucky Louie after its first season in 2006. Petitions were circulated and tears were shed (probably).

But this year, brings new hope for CK fans, as the premiere of his new FX show Louie — centered around him living in New York City as a single father to his two daughters — is getting closer (April 1). Not to mention, we’ll soon see the commercial release of his newest hour-long comedy special Hilarious, which recently became the first stand-up film to screen at Sundance.

And, now, if you live in Canada, you’ll be able to check out the now classic episodes of Lucky Louie on the Comedy Network. The R-rated show will premiere on the network on March 3 at 10 pm. All 13 episodes will air uncut and uncensored. Check out a clip from the show below.

Louis CK new FX show announces debut date

Digg!

Louis CKWhile we all knew since August of last year that Louis would be debuting a brand new sitcom type show on FX called Louie, it wasn’t until today that the network said when the fun would begin. Fittingly, the network chose April 1 — April Fool’s Day — at 10 pm to expose the genius that his C.K. to the world.

The show follows Louis as he tries to balance two young daughters while living and doing stand-up comedy in New York City. In other words, it’s about his real life. Thirteen episodes have been ordered, in which Louis serves as executive producer, writer and director. Not since his last show, HBO’s Lucky Louie (which was never given a fair chance), have we been this excited to see a television show premiere.

Louis CK on pre Conan Tonight Show: it was an ‘old, shitty thing’

Digg!

Louis CKMany celebrities and comedians have sounded off on the NBC controversy surrounding Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno and their respective shows.

But we think Louis CK had the best comments thus far. At a Television Critics Association event yesterday, where he was promoting his upcoming FX show Louie, CK fielded questions about the NBC kerfuffle, saying, “I don’t know why you’d give up [your own show] to host The Tonight Show, which is just this old shitty thing,” reports TV Squad. He added: “Conan will be fine.”

And in typical hilarious Louis CK fashion, he quipped, “It’s a little presumptuous of my to tell Conan that his dreams are misguided. But they are.” Clearly a member of Team Conan, CK was once a writer for the talk show host.

Louis C.K. shows his hatred for hecklers in I Am Comic

Digg!

All comics hate a heckler, but no one’s every articulated their hatred quite as perfectly as the world’s most articulate comic. In this clip — from the documentary I Am Comic by Jordan Brady — Louis C.K. expounds on his disdain for people who won’t shut up during his shows.

I Am Comic will play at the Slamdance Film Festival in Los Angeles on Jan. 27 at 8 pm.

Louis CK’s ‘Hilarious’ will be first stand-up concert film at Sundance

Digg!

Louis CKFor Louis C.K., 2010 may turn out to be merely an extension of 2009. The in-demand comic, was recently seen on the big screen in The Invention of Lying and on the small screen in a recurring role on Parks and Recreation, will premiere his stand-up concert film, Louis C.K.: Hilarious, next month at the Sundance Film Festival, to be held from Jan. 21-31 in Park City, Utah. It’s the first time Sundance will screen a stand-up comedy concert film, quite a feat with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock having made plenty of concert films combined.

Louis, whose second hour-long special, Louis C.K.: Chewed Up, was up for an Emmy Award in September in the category of Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Musical or Comedy Special, directed the new film, which he shot at The Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, Wisc., in April. Also next year, he will dissect his life as a comedian and single dad on the new FX series Louie.

Will Sarah Silverman ever be comfortable on the red carpet?

Digg!

Sarah SilvermanOne of the great things about stand-up comedy is that, unlike television and movie stars, a great stand-up is rarely judged on their appearance. No doubt, it doesn’t hurt to be attractive to the masses even as a comic, but you can’t point out too many instances of “he or she is incredibly attractive and that’s why they’re famous” in the world of stand-up comedy. To put it succinctly, there’s not too many Megan Foxes or Keanus of comedy. And before you cynical sillies invoke Dane Cook’s name to disprove this theory, remember this: Cook busted his ass for more than 15 years before he became a star.

Hearing about people watching the Emmys last week — I’m sure I was busy watching Lord of the Rings for the 43rd time — and seeing Sarah Silverman on the red carpet (she was up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for The Sarah Silverman Program) just got me thinking about how it seems, now more than ever, our best stand-ups are starting to mingle in mainstream circles. Tom Papa and Paul F. Tompkins were just in The Informant! with Matt Damon; Patton Oswalt is the star of the critically acclaimed drama Big Fan, Joel McHale stars in NBC’s Community and Louis CK just walked the red carpet for that new Jennifer Garner flick The Invention of Lying (written and directed by comedian Ricky Gervais), which he’s in.

My point is this: I love that Sarah Silverman gets interviewed on the red carpet now. But I also love that she so clearly doesn’t fit in with the rest of the Hollywood “elite.” And that’s a good thing. The day after the Emmys she Tweeted this: ”Why didn’t anyone stop me? This is why I hate fancypantsiness. I’m not good at it OKAY?” Watch the video below, and tell us what you think. Can Sarah pull off “fancypantsiness?”

Louis CK series picked up by FX

Digg!

Louis CKIn June, we reported that Louis CK was at the Comedy Cellar in New York City filming part of what would become a pilot for cable giant FX. Tonight, we can report that the master comedian’s show will, in fact, see the light of day.

The show, Louie, will revolve around CK’s character, a stand-up comedian with two daughters trying to raise them properly in New York as a single Dad. By the way, if you don’t know, that’s exactly what Louis’ real life has become. Variety reports that FX has ordered 13 episodes of his new show.

The show will “blend stand-up material with… ‘extended vignettes’ depicting moments from his offstage experiences,” according to Variety. Louie is set to premiere early next year.

CK, who’s latest hour stand-up special Chewed Up was nominated for an Emmy also just signed on to star in NBC’s Parks and Recreation opposite Amy Poehler.
