It’s that time of year again when New Yorkers start gearing up for five nights of high profile, holy-crap-look-who-showed-up comedy.

The 2010 New York Comedy Festival, running from November 3-7, is unleashing one of its most jam-packed lineups to date. Among the heavy hitters, there’s Aziz Ansari, Adam Carolla, Margaret Cho, Louis CK, Kevin Hart, Gabriel Iglesias, Luis Jimenez, Maz Jobrani, Joel McHale, Brian Regan, and Nick Swardson, all performing big headlining gigs. Oh, and there’s Rosie O’Donnell. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, with 150 other comedians performing at venues throughout the city.

The festival was founded by Caroline Hirsch, owner of Caroline’s on Broadway, and is being produced in association with Comedy Central.

“The New York Comedy Festival has become THE destination for legendary and rising comedic talent,” says Hirsch. “We are excited about this year’s programming that features an array of performers that are distinct, visionary and downright hilarious.”

“I’m thrilled to give the New York Comedy Festival another try this November” says Joel McHale, one of the many festival headliners. “To be playing Carnegie Hall is a milestone in the Festival’s misjudgment, but for me it is a dream come true.”

Visit the festival website for tickets, scheduling and other details.

Louis C.K.’s “Louie” picked up for second season

Digg!

Louis CKThe curse has been broken. Louis C.K.’s new FX show Louie will not suffer the same fate as the comedian’s previous television attempt Lucky Louie for HBO, which was killed after one season.

The critically acclaimed new series will return to FX with 13 episodes at the same time next year, reports, HitFix, on their live blog covering the network’s executive session during a press tour.

Other great comedy news includes this: Writing partners Ben Garrant and Thomas Lennon — best known for their work on Comedy Central’s Reno 911! — are working on a pilot for the network titled The U.S.S. Alabama, which, according to HitFix is “a space series that he compares to Reno 911! in tone and structure.” The pair will produce and write it, and, of course act in the pilot episode.

Lewis Black documentary, ‘Basic Black’ to premiere Aug. 1 on Epix

Digg!

Lewis BlackAs we’ve said before, newcomer cable channel Epix, is fast becoming the go-to place to see exclusive premieres of stand-up comedy specials from some of the country’s best-respected comedians. You can already count David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, and Eddie Izzard as members of their roster.

And this week, it was announced that Louis C.K. has chosen the network to premiere his highly anticipated, critically acclaimed new hour special Hilarious.

And today, we learn that Epix will air Lewis Black’s new special, Basic Black, set to premiere Aug. 1. But, check it out: Basic Black is more than a traditional hour-long stand-up comedy special. New live footage of Black will be accompanied by vintage stage footage of the comedian in his younger days, interspersed, as well, with sit down interviews with Black.

Epix kicked off their string of comedy specials last year with Black’s Stark Raving Black.

Louis C.K.: Hilarious

It’s time we just call 2010 what it really is: the year of Louis CK.

With his new FX sitcom Louie off and running, garnering more favorable reviews then his last attempt at at a television show, there’s more good news for Louis and his fans. Finally, after a year of mass anticipation, his live stand-up concert film, Louis CK: Hilarious, will be airing on EPIX Sept. 18.

After the premiere it will be available through EPIX’s Video On Demand service and online at epixhd.com. We know you have all been dying to see this film after making history by being the only stand-up film to ever be presented at The Sundance Film Festival, and raking in rave reviews from top critics.

So, if you aren’t an EPIX subscriber you may want to think about subscribing. The fledgling cable channel has already cranked out new hours from Lewis Black, David Cross and Janeane Garofalo; not to mention, they were just nominated for an Emmy (Eddie Izzard’s Believe).

Hilarious will also get a limited release in theaters before its EPIX premiere. If you can’t get out to one of the theater shows. Comedy Central will also air the special in 2011, only to be followed, of course, by the DVD release of Hilarious. You can put it on the shelf next to Chewed Up and Shameless to complete your CK trilogy, and cherish it forever.

Louis C.K. tells George Lopez his philosophy on why people honk their horns

Digg!

Hooray for press tours!

With his continued promotion (like this and this) of his new show Louie — it premieres with two episodes this coming Tuesday on FX at 11 pm EST — Louis CK has been all over the tube getting more exposure than ever before.

Last night he stopped by Lopez Tonight; fellow stand-up George Lopez introduced Louis as one of his favorite comedians. And not only did he sit down for an interview, but he treated viewers to a stand up set complete with a hilarious piece on having to take his little girls into a men’s airport bathroom. If these are the kind of situations brought up in his new show I think we all have something to seriously look forward to.

Check out his stand-up set below and the interview after the jump.

Louis C.K. to Jay Leno: I never got laid because of my looks

Digg!

Louis C.K. sat down last night with Jay Leno to, as it would seem, not to talk about his new sitcom, Louie, which premiers – with two episodes – this coming Tuesday on FX at 11 pm EST. C.K., instead, simply talked about his own life: his kids, volunteering at a public school his sex life, the pitfalls of milk cartons, nut allergies, and why he doesn’t care if someone else’s kid swears.

And for a review of Louie and more info, go here. Enjoy!

Louis C.K.: I used to sit on the toilet to avoid my kids

Digg!

In case you’ve been off planet, and have no idea what’s been going on – to the delight of everyone there has been absolute explosion of Louis CK due to the promo tour for his new FX sitcom Louie.

The show is loosely based on CK’s actual life as a comedian and divorced parent raising two kids. He also uses parenting as a large chunk of source material for his recent stand-up specials. So it should be no surprise that Louis CK has a few words to say to you about Father’s Day.

In the end he realizes he’s a terrible father, but his kids love him unconditionally. And that’s the true meaning of being a father.

Louis C.K. tells Jon Stewart: I can’t say ‘retarded’ on FX

Digg!

Last night, Louis CK stopped by the Daily Show with Jon Stewart to promote his new FX show, Louie. The segment starts with a clip from Louie during which the comedian gets stuck at airport security and has to explain what his bottle of lube is for. Things quickly devolved into Louis CK and Jon Stewart using their rolling chairs as hopping devices, and Stewart let the audience in on why the wheels on the chairs don’t actually work (hint: all precautions must be taken to ensure Jimmy Carter doesn’t die on set).

Louis CK also shared three banned words on FX and explored the ramifications of saying “retarded” in a nice tone of voice. For more musings, check out the full interview below. And don’t forget to tune into Louie, premiering on FX at 11 pm EST on June 29.

Hulu launches official “Louie” video page, new promo clips go live

Digg!

There’s not much to say here. We just think you should know that in preparation for the June 29 FX premiere of Louis CK’s new show Louie, Hulu has launched a page that will house all relevant videos. In fact, there’s a nice handful of promo clips up there already. Also, you should know that Louis will be on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart June 16 to promote the show. Let’s unofficially call June Louis CK month, shall we? We shall!

Check out a pair of the aforementioned Hulu clips below. Enjoy!
