Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival features Emo Phillips, Reggie Watts, David Cross, more

Digg!

eugene2For the third year in a row, alt comedy god Eugene Mirman is bringing his anti-comedy-festival comedy festival to the borough he calls home. This year’s festivities, which will run September 16-19, will once again be held at Union Hall in Park Slope and Bell House in Gowanus, with The Rock Shop in Park Slope added into the mix.

Perks of Mirman’s off-beat comedy extravaganza have included free barbecue upon entry into a show, a limo to haul audience members to the subway stop from out-of-the-way Bell House, and shows with entertaining themes and high profile guests. This year’s offerings include shows like An Evening of Comedy From 1986, A Night of Gay or Foreign Comedy and Toddless Tinkle. Guests throughout the festival will include David Cross, John Mulaney, John Oliver, Marc Maron, Kristen Schaal, Reggie Watts, Emo Phillips, Mike Birbiglia, Kumail Nanjiani and many, many more.

This is always a great way to see some of the best comics in the world be funny and have a blast in a laid back atmosphere (something decidedly lacking in your average festival). Check out the festival website for schedules, tickets and specific lineups.

Eugene Mirman makes Webby Awards awkward, hilarious

Digg!

Award shows are filled with awkward moments, and the Webbys – the folks that honor the best on the Internet – are no different. Throw comedian Eugene Mirman in the mix and you get an evening full of hilarious awkward moments.

On Monday Mirman chatted with red carpet arrivals like Amy Poehler, Gilbert Gottfried and musician Ben Folds. Want proof? Check out the videos below. Enjoy!

Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal team up in animated Fox series, watch the trailer

Digg!

Thank the comedy gods for midseason replacements, right? The one we’re most looking forward to is Bob’s Burgers, which will land on Fox. It’s an animated series that follows the misadventures of a family-run burger joint that just can’t seem to turn a profit. H. Jon Benjamin — who will also be heard as the lead character on the second season of FX’s Archer this year — voices the misdirected patriarch; Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal voice two of his children.

Judging by the newly released trailer below, the show has a very deliberate Simpsons feel, both in comedic tone and from a visual standpoint. As long as the scripts are written well, we can’t see this show not being funny, what with the amazing voice talent on board. Check out the preview below and let us know what you think.

Eugene Mirman gets in the e-card business

Digg!

Hey, remember last summer when Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter did a series of video e-cards for hilarious e-card provider someecards.com? Regardless, here they are. Ok, so now that we’ve convinced you that we weren’t making that up, the fact that Eugene Mirman has now signed on to do a series of e-cards will feel so right (and relevant) to you. Well, it’s true!

Below is the comedian’s first effort for the site. Really, it’s little different than any other viral video Mirman would make on his own. Maybe that’s why we like it. We’re down for any excuse to get more Mirman online. Enjoy!

Eugene Mirman goes shirtless in snowstorm to give brave weather report

Digg!

Beyond being one of the most entertaining and talented stand-up comedians in the country, cranking out three stellar albums, producing a comedy festival named after himself and writing a book, Eugene Mirman, has for years, been entertaining us with his goofy viral videos.

In December of last year, he bestowed upon the World Wide Web a series of “reporting” packages for Earth-friendly website Grist.org. And now, the versatile comedian can add “fake, shirtless weatherman” to his resume! Check out his report below, filmed, we imagine, during the East Coast’s latest dumping of snow from heaven.

Seriously, though, Eugene. No nipple?

All over the country, artists of all kinds are producing benefits to raise money for Haiti. And comedians are no different. Last week, one of our favorite clubs, Comix, where we film our interview series A Tight Five, hosted a pretty stellar night of comedy for Haiti, featuring performances by Dave Attell, Janeane Garofalo, Eugene Mirman, Wyatt Cenac, Todd Barry and more.

Also on hand was Mike Mitchell, the creator of the “I’m with Coco” poster. A signed-by-Conan version of the print was auctioned of for $1,650 on Jan. 28, the night of the show.

The venue raised $7,625 on admission to the showroom, an extra $80 for bar admission, $2,100 on auctions, $780 in live raffles and more than $1,332 in eBay auctions. In fact, there’s still more live auctions on eBay. Check them out here. And check out some photos (above and after the jump) taken by Mindy Tucker from the fundraiser.

Eugene Mirman starts leg-in-recycling-can fad

Digg!

At the time of this writing, international man of travel Eugene Mirman is back home in New York. But he did spend a week in Copenhagen, Denmark where he was covering the UN Climate Conference for planet-friendly website Grist.org. We’ve been happily posting all of his dispatches, which you can see here.

Here’s the final installment in his epic reporting stint. With the people skills we’ve seen from Eugene recently, we predict that in 2010, he will become a full-time correspondent for the Disney Channel, interviewing the likes of Selena Gomez and those twins that played that kid in Big Daddy.

Eugene Mirman inspects major dong in Copenhagen

Digg!

Four Eugene Mirman videos in less than a week? Is it too much? Is he polluting the Internet much like the Danish climate change protesters claim dirty corporations are polluting the world? Maybe. But who are we to judge? What we will say about this dispatch from Copenhagen, where Mirman is covering the UN Climate Conference for Grist.org is that there are a lot of penis references. It’s polluted with penises, if you will. So sit back and enjoy. And stop fucking up the environment.

And be sure to check out Mirman’s other video reports from Copenhagen here, here and here.
