Details emerge on Comedy Central’s new Mitch Hedberg album
Details of the new Mitch Hedberg album set for release on Sept. 9 from Comedy Central Records are emerging.
Comedy Central Records head Jack Vaughn told Punchline Magazine today that the album will contain 40-45 minutes of previously unreleased material, most of which was collected from a Jan. 2005 show Hedberg did at the Improv in Ontario, CA.
The album Comedy Central will not give up the title just yet will be a single disc release and will not contain any video, as many other Comedy Central albums do. However, there will be bonus tracks. “It’s audio but not stand-up,” Vaughn says.
We can also expect some unique artwork to accompany the album. “We haven’t started working on the packaging yet. But we have the layout. We just need to find the right designer, Vaughn says, adding that they’re looking at indie band Jawbox album covers for inspiration. “It would be a travesty if we did something that didn’t live up to the expectations of Mitch’s fans.”
As we previously reported, no jokes that appear on Mitch’s first two releases, Strategic Grill Locations and Mitch All Together will be repeated on the new album. Comedy Central even went as far not to include old jokes that had been updated with new tags.
“These are the contemporary hits,” Vaughn says about the new album, adding that Mitch’s hippo joke, “Is a hippopotamus a hippopotamus, or just a really cool Opotamus?” and belt joke: “My belt holds my pants up, but the belt loops hold my belt up. So which one is the real hero?” are two of the gems that will be included.

Watch, and be amazed, as a dead guy puts to shame 99 percent of the stand-ups living today! This will be an awesome, awesome thing to behold.

Holy cow Mitch, that is one sweet trick. Ya leave us 3 years ago, and you still got new stuff coming out. Not since John Lennon’s comeback tour of 84 with “Nobody Told Me There Would Be Days Like These” have we seen such bravado. I know its probably only a one time thing and you have to get back to the “PEARLY GATE ‘08″ tour with Kinison and Pryor but thanks for the drop in. All us old fans really miss ya.
