Kathy Griffin at Washington rally: Repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

Digg!

Kathy GriffinTwo days ago, comedian Kathy Griffin announced that she would descend on our nation’s capitol today to hold a rally in an effort to convince Congress to repeal what she feels is the outdated “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy which the U.S. Army employs. And she wasn’t joking at all.

In short, the policy says, if you’re gay and you’re in the military, don’t tell the rest of the military; and in turn, the rest of the military won’t ask you who you’d rather have sex with.

“I was nervous the whole time because it’s not my world, obviously,” Griffin said at the rally today, according to IrishCentral.com. “Also, I have a problem with the potty mouth, so I didn’t know how far I could go when joking with these legislators — and I learned not far at all. Almost every one of my jokes was taken as a serious statement, even when I asked the majority whip to whip me.”

But in case you’re thinking that this was just another way for the press-friendly Griffin to create headlines — she was also filming for her reality show, My Life on the D-List — the comedian did some serious work this week in D.C.

Jim Gaffigan will leave TBS show ‘My Boys’

Digg!

Jim GaffiganWhile comedian Jim Gaffigan didn’t have a huge role in the three seasons of TBS original comedy, My Boys, fans of the show would agree his Andy character was integral– not to mention, hilarious.

It came out today, however, that Gaffigan, in an effort to focus on his always-demanding stand-up touring schedule, will be leaving the show in its fourth season, which premieres July 25. His character will move overseas, according to Zap2It. Veteran character actress Rachael Harris (The Hangover) will join the cast.

Pete Lee becomes CMT, Rooftop Comedy’s ‘Next Big Comic’

Digg!

Congratulations are in order for comedian Pete Lee, the winner of CMT (that’s right, Country Music Television) and Rooftop Comedy’s search for the Next Big Comic. Having survived through five weeks of stiff competition based on online voting, Lee earned himself a spot in the upcoming Aspen Comedy Festival, his second time in as many years that he’ll to perform there.

The competition started back in February when 12 comics were selected by Rooftop Comedy to compete, all established comedians in their own right but were only on the verge of breaking out. Through the weeks they were slowly eliminated, until only four remained. Given the caliber of talent that made it that far, including John Ramsey, Jessi Campbell and Ryan Singer, it should be considered quite an honor to win.

Lee made an acceptance speech, which is featured below in addition to his award-winning set. Check it out, and be sure to catch him at the upcoming Aspen Comedy Festival. Well done, Mr. Lee.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a song from Stephen Lynch

Digg!

Stephen LynchOn his stellar 2002 album Superhero, Stephen Lynch, he of the funny song writing ilk, ends his disc with a wee ditty called “Down to the Old Pub Instead.” Why are we telling you this? Well, because it’s friggin’ St. Patrick’s Day and said song, according to Lynch, was inspired by this holiest of holidays.

And what kind of site would we be if we didn’t somehow try to shoe-horn some kind of St. Patrick’s Day reference onto the blog on this day? The last thing we want are our Irish-American readers to feel slighted. So, don’t say we ignored this day. Now, enjoy the music of Stephen Lynch.

Zach Galifianakis gives Ben Stiller the ‘Between Two Ferns’ treatment

These never get old. Check it out, kids!

Nick Thune and Kool Keith combine powers for Dick Towel video

Digg!

Sometimes the universe lines up in a special kind of way. At least, that is the only explanation I have for the video I just watched, appropriately titled “Dick Towel” – a music video that combines the FX show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the hilarious Nick Thune, and the legendary concept rapper Kool Keith.

Inspired by the Dick Towel, a product that appeared on It’s Always Sunny that prominently features several perspectives of both a large (“huge cock”) and small (“tiny bird”) penis placed conveniently on a towel, Keith has provided us with a tasteful song detailing said towel. The video, directed by Bradley Scott, is enjoyable, though I’m not exactly sure if it was because it’s funny, or because it is so delightfully confusing.

It starts off innocent enough, with Thune and actor Justin Dray discussing a lighthouse painted on the wall, but it quickly progresses into a world of animated sailboats, crabs, Dick Towel-clad women and an ocean of swimming penises. The rhymes aren’t Keith’s best work (that would belong to the timeless Dr. Octagonecologyst), but given the subject matter and the overall absurdity, they create a wonderful tribute to a hilarious television show.

You can watch the video here. We think it’s NSFW. God it’s getting harder and harder to tell these days.

And if you are curious –yes, Dick Towels actually exist. And they can be ordered from dicktowel.com.
