We reported on Feb. 9 that Brian Posehn, stand-up comedian and co-star of the Sarah Silverman Program, would be releasing his second live album, plainly titled Fart and Wiener Jokes.
Now we’re excited to share with you two preview tracks from the album, which is set for release on April 27 on Relapse Records, one of the country’s largest purveyor of extreme metal bands.
On his stellar 2002 album Superhero, Stephen Lynch, he of the funny song writing ilk, ends his disc with a wee ditty called “Down to the Old Pub Instead.” Why are we telling you this? Well, because it’s friggin’ St. Patrick’s Day and said song, according to Lynch, was inspired by this holiest of holidays.
And what kind of site would we be if we didn’t somehow try to shoe-horn some kind of St. Patrick’s Day reference onto the blog on this day? The last thing we want are our Irish-American readers to feel slighted. So, don’t say we ignored this day. Now, enjoy the music of Stephen Lynch.
Today, comedy and music fans unite, as Sarah Silverman and the crew from Comedy Central’s Sarah Silverman Program release a collection of songs featured on the show. The album, titled From Our Rears To Your Ears, is a 99-track epic featuring musical ditties from all seasons — including the current one — as well as snippets of audio from fan favorite scenes.
If you like the show, you’ll like the album. While at times, the album seems a bit slapped together — smooth transitions and segues, be damned! — in the end, it doesn’t much matter. You want an audio, portable version of the best of the Sarah Silverman Program to listen to whilst treadmilling or driving. You got it. Check out a few tracks below!

For years now, the 1950s cartoon icon Speedy Gonzales has been attacked for being a racist, politically incorrect stereotype of Mexicans. So it would seem odd that a major movie studio like New Line Cinema would produce an entire file based around the offensive character. Have no fear, sensitive souls! New Line’s got it all under control.
“We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s — the racist Speedy,” said Ann Lopez, George’s wife, who will serve alongside him as a producer. “Speedy’s going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he’s a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he’s good at.”
We know what you may be thinking. Isn’t Speedy the exact opposite of what the Mexican stereotype has been throughout the ages? The shitty stereotype is that Mexicans are slow and lazy and not overachieving and fast like our friend Speedy, right? Right.
And comedian Tim Slagle agrees. On his 2006 album Europa, he deftly tackles the issue. Check out the track below. And then tell us what you think. Was Speedy a racist character or not?
Raaaaaaaandy, the alter-ego of comedian-on-the-rise Aziz Ansari, has applied his passion for dancing, comedy, and rap-making to the most logical conclusion: a comedy/hip hop mixtape. Well aware of the faults of most comedy-rap (that it’s not funny), to correct these Raaaaaaaandy has sought help from the overly qualified Dave Sitek (of TV on the Radio fame) to produce the ambitious mixtape, with beats from DJ Granwizerd and The Have.
Though little is known about the project, including a release date, a list of guest emcees, and a name, a track was already leaked. Promptly released officially to the public, the track titled “Aaaaaaaangry” features Raaaaaaaandy lashing out at just about every rapper of note for not writing any verses for the album yet (despite being asked to months ago).
We have the official, updated with new lyrics, track below, so take a listen –hear the taunts against Kanye, MF Doom and Eminem, a pretty accurate critique of Dr. Dre, and a spoken word outro by none other than the Rza. Though little is known about the album, if even only a third of the rappers mentioned here are actually going to contribute, it ought to be fairly epic.
For the last few years, soft-spoken, guitar-wielding comedian Nick Thune has been slowly building a reputation as a respected artist in the alt-comedy scene, especially in Los Angeles, where he’s based.
But in 2009, he became part of Jay Leno’s posse of seemingly not primetime-friendly — not because of lack of talent but because of their non mainstream approach to joke writing — comedian correspondents. We get that Leno is the devil, but before the whole late night debacle of 2010, we were, admittedly praising Leno for exposing the likes of Thune, Jim Norton, Marina Franklin and more to the average television viewer. We won’t stop praising that behavior now.
So now, Thune, with the Leno exposure under his belt and his already strong comedy pedigree, is set to release his debut album on Comedy Central Records. Thick Noon comes out on Feb. 23. But you can check out a pair of tracks here. Let us know what you think. And after the jump, check out Nick’s appearance on last night’s Jay Leno Show, his final piece of screen time for the show.
The journalist who told the world, despite every mainstream publication’s denials, that Kathie Lee Gifford would join Today — and was right — is now saying that NBC has plans to cancel The Jay Leno Show. TVwebsite FTVLive.com editor Scott Jones told KNX1070 News Radio this morning that his sources at the network are prepping to pull the plug on the primetime chat show. You can listen to the interview with Jones here.
In response to his statement, NBC had this to say:
Jay Leno is one of the most compelling entertainers in the world today. As we have said all along, Jay’s show has performed exactly as we anticipated on the network. It has, however, presented some issues for our affiliates. Both Jay and the show are committed to working closely with them to find ways to improve the performance.
So, what do you think? Is it possible NBC will pull the plug this early on of their biggest stars? Would they replace him? If so, with who? Tell us in the comments section.
Every few months I chat with comedian and host Brian Mollica on his super podcast Behind the Bricks. His new episode just went live on behindthebricks.com. You should check it out, and all his other work. For your convenience and for my ego, I’ve embedded the newest episode below, on which I appear for an either educational and entertaining or agonizing 30 minutes — depending on who you are.
Among other things, we discuss Daniel Tosh’s amazing year, Jeff Dunham, Moshe Kasher, Myq Kaplan, Patton Oswalt, Tom Rhodes and Greg Giraldo. The interview begins at 9:15. Enjoy and leave your comments below!
George Lopez recently launched his own late-night chat show on TBS, Lopez Tonight. But fear not, stand-up purists. He’s still cranking out live albums. In fact, his newest, Tall, Dark & Chicano will hit stores and online retailers Dec. 15. But you, our friends, can listen to a track from the album right here, right now. Enjoy. And tell us what you think about Lopez in the comments section!
Tomorrow, the mighty Stand Up! Records will release the mighty Doug Stanhope’s new album, From Across the Street. We’ve been listening to it for days already, just to make sure that our initial opinion of the disc remained true through repeated listens. So, after a very scientific process of playing the album and laughing and then playing it again and laughing and then thinking about the album and laughing, we’ve arrived at our official decision: the new Doug Stanhope album is excellent – one of the best stand-up releases of the year – and you should buy it immediately.
If you’re familiar with Stanhope’s gritty ways, nothing will surprise you about From Across the Street; you will once again find comfort in chaos as Stanhope pours brutal honesty upon his audience: he doesn’t want to know if he’s dying of a terminal illness; one time, a die hard fan killed himself after seeing Stanhope live; he hated his tenure – but loved the money – on Comedy Central’s The Man Show.
For those less familiar with the veteran comedian, well, now you know what you’re in for. And if it’s still not clear, check out the track below from the new album! Also, be on the look out for our in-depth interview with Stanhope later this week!
Ok, now buy the album by clicking the image below.
