British comic in trouble for telling crass jokes in front of the Queen
English stand-up comedian and actor Patrick McGuinness is in hot water after telling some off-color jokes in front of the Queen at Monday’s Royal Variety Performance. The annual variety show, which is attended by senior members of the British Royal Family, is held for charity and broadcast across several European countries.
McGuinness’s set in question included an innuendo concerning the size of his penis, a jibe about the sexuality of an openly gay presenter at the show, and a joke about an Indian restaurant that included the phrase “eight of Ahmed’s peshwari balls in your mouth.” According to this report in the Daily Mail, the jokes were met with nervous laughter and left several members of the audience stunned.
British television station ITV is under pressure from industry groups to censor McGuinness’s performance during the broadcast next Wednesday. The station has simply stated that they will adhere to pre-watershed guidelines and that they will cut the show to fit within the allotted airtime. They remain vague on whether or not this means McGuinness’s set will be included.
McGuinness has been mum about the event, so one can only speculate on whether this was poor judgment, not wanting to make artistic compromises, or simply a desire to push people’s buttons for publicity. Was McGuinness out of line? Should a comedian censor themselves in such a situation?

Wow.
An insecure, heterosexual male comedian getting cheap laughs at the expense of another.
We’ve certainly never seen THAT before have we?
Here’s a thought for Paddy: Truly smart & funny people do not have to rely upon degrading others to make people laugh.
Put down your typical insecure heterosexual male ego for 5 minutes and become a real human being. You might even get laid once in awhile, you tool.
