A comedy scene grows in Milwaukee
While the Midwest has a great reputation as a hotbed for killer tunes, it’s typically seen as little bit of a dud when it comes to live comedy (minus Minnesota, which has an excellent scene).
But the temperatures are changing. Case in point: The Stand Up at Mikey’s Skylight Room, produced by Milwaukee comic Wes Shaver in a neighborhood restaurant.
“Wes approached me and did it the right way,” the restaurant’s manager, Noah Heaney told the Marquette Tribune. “We just gave him a stage and room and said, ‘Go to town.’ Everything else has been his artistic tweak on what he thinks is a great room and a great restaurant.”
Shaver’s goal was to provide an outlet for under-served comics.
“It’s hard for young people to find opportunities; this is why I created this,” says Shaver. “We’re offering a great space, awesome food, cocktails, and an awesome atmosphere for any kind of comedian.”
