Aziz Ansari rages war on IMAX
Last night, Aziz Ansari (stand-up comic, actor, awesome dude) visited a theater near him to catch the new Star Trek movie. Imagine his frustration after dropping the extra $5 for the IMAX experience only to find that the screen is not gigantic or amazing in any way. Instead, he viewed the movie on a slightly bigger than usual screen that had great digital sound and picture – not exactly what he was expecting.
According to this piece, IMAX CEO, Richard Gelfond said the company only puts IMAX digital systems into multiplex auditoriums that meet certain criteria. He jokingly said, “It’s a very scientific test. It’s called the ‘wow’ factor. So if you don’t go in and go ‘wow,’ we won’t do it.” HAHAHA! REALLY FUNNY RICHARD!!!! What happens if I go in the theatre and go “This isn’t a fucking IMAX screen, I just got ripped off for $5!!” Do I get my money back?”
In fact, the twitterverse and blogoshperes catching on to the controversy after Ansari declared a boycott against AMC, Regal, and IMAX alike. Check out the Aziz is Bored Tumblr page or read some back tweets for the whole story.

I say good for Aziz.
But I don’t think AMC/Regal are going to change anything until they think it’s going to hurt their bottom line.
Please sign my petition here to tell them we’re not going to put up with this crap:
