I believe that Mitch Hedberg’s nomination should be revoked from Comedy Central’s Stand-Up Showdown competition. Before any Hedbergistas show up at my home with pitch forks and torches, let me state how much I admire Mitch’s craft. I will forever be a fan of his timing, style, and unique observations. It is rare that a comedian with such relatively low media exposure could gain a spot in the top echelon of comics as proficiently as Mitch did. Undeniably, the man is a comedy legend. That being said, I feel that a prerequisite for a Comedy Central half-hour special to be nominated should be that the comedian be alive. Do you agree or disagree?
Whether the recordings will turn into an official album release is yet to be determined, Dominick told me recently.
Regardless, if you’re in the area, get thee to the club Dec. 28 or 29. As fellow comedian Patrice O’Neil once said on stage, Pete Dominick doesn’t know the meaning of a bad set.
If you don’t know Pete, he hosts a live call-in show on Sirius every day at noon EST called Comedy By Request; he’s also the warm-up comic for The Colbert Report. Check out his newly re-launched site here.
Comedy Central is holding its annual Stand-Up Showdown to let fans vote for their favorite comedians. The top 20 comedians will have their specials re-aired during a televised countdown starting at noon on Jan. 27. Each Monday, I’llcheck in and update you all with the current standings to let you know which faces are new to the Top 20 along with who is sliding or rising in rankings. Today, I’m somewhat surprised to announce that (for better or worse) Dane Cook is not in the Top 20.
Gone are the days of reviewers coming to comedy shows and psyching out the comedians, now it’s time for us – the bloggers!
I was at a comedy show last night where one comedian referred to the bloggers in the audience at least five times. Now, I’m not going to tell you the comedian’s name or the venue because he specifically said he didn’t want to read about how his set went and some blogger’s opinion on the quality of his jokes– or as he put it, “I don’t want to wake up tomorrow and read “the black comic did another typical black comic set.â€
So I won’t say all of that – specifically because he’s a friend who doesn’t know I am one of the enemy!!!
But it does amuse me that it seems we - the bloggers of this world – actually have some effect these days. Either that, or comedians are even more sensitive and vulnerable than I suspected!
But a word of warning to you bloggers – make sure everything you ever write has been tested by the tried and true question: “Would I say this to this person’s face?â€
Last month I went to Westwood Brew. Co to do a spot. I had been there earlier in the year and had blogged about my experience. Within that blog I referred to the booker of the show as “The womanizer of comedy.†So when I turned up that night, the first thing he said to me was, “Nice blog – The womanizer of comedy, eh?†So it’s a good thing I would have been happy saying that to his face.
The 2007 ECNY Awards, New York’s original comedy awards, have announced this year’s nominees. Amongst the unique creative talents is my one of favorite comics and Brooklyn’s own, John Mulaney. Mulaney has been an active member of the New York comedy scene for a number of years now and toured with Mike Birbiglia in 2006. Birgbilia himself is a past recipient of the ECNY award. Good sign of things to come? I certainly hope so.

When Mahmoud Ahmadinejad isn’t busy stifling democracy worldwide and suppressing the basic freedoms and equalities of his people, he’s blogging. Yes, the president of Iran is a prolific blogger who covers topics ranging from Islamic Governance to his past trip to the U.S., even current events. Take a look at this recent entry:
“[In the Name of Almighty God, the All-Knowing, the Most Lovingly Compassionate -
I can't believe that Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag from MTV's "The Hills" have called off their wedding engagement!I hope that they are not going to continue to live together because if that was going here, I would have to have her stoned. Seriously though, like anyone believes that this relationship is real. It is a total set up by the MTV producers of the show and the Bush Administration.
Also, the Holocaust was fake and death to Israel.

Good luck with blogging Mahmoud let me know if you want to join my blogroll.
